learning and development of the components of fitness.
Every stage of our “Strong Kids” programme is designed to develop each of the components of fitness. However, as the children develop there are certain components that require more focus and attention. See below for a breakdown of this stages main fitness component focuses.
-
Strength, an integral facet of fitness, speaks to the capacity to exert force against resistance. In the Conquerors stage, we focus on perfecting strength-based skills and introducing more complex and challenging exercises so that the children are equipped with the knowledge to train safely and effectively by themselves or with their friends, for life.
At this level, children will engage in advanced strength training exercises that could include variations of push movements, lunges, and squats, and even the introduction of Olympic weightlifting techniques, such as the clean and jerk, and the snatch. Other movements such as kettlebell swings and deadlifts using weights are also introduced and developed further. Safety and proper form remain paramount in these sessions, and each new exercise is introduced under careful supervision, ensuring that children can perform these movements correctly and safely.
Building upon the Pioneers stage, the Conquerors stage signifies a shift towards a more advanced understanding of strength and conditioning training. Children are expected to have a strong foundation in strength exercises and an understanding of the importance of correct form from their experiences in the Pioneers stage. In the Conquerors stage, they will progress to more advanced exercises, encouraging them to push their boundaries while maintaining a focus on safety and enjoyment. This stage aims to equip children with the skills and confidence to continue strength training independently in the future, fostering a lifelong love of fitness.

Anaerobic capacity, a key element of fitness, refers to the maximum amount of energy that can be produced by the body in the absence of oxygen, generally during high-intensity, short-duration exercises. In the Conquerors stage, we concentrate on boosting this capacity through a variety of advanced movements, games, and skills.
At this level, children may engage in high-intensity interval training (HIIT) games or activities. They might also participate in sport-specific drills or exercises that require short bursts of intense effort. The aim is to increase their anaerobic endurance, enabling them to perform at high intensities for longer periods.
Transitioning from the Pioneers stage, the Conquerors stage represents an elevation in fitness complexity and intensity. Where the Pioneers stage focused on building a broad foundation of fitness skills, the Conquerors stage takes this base and builds upon it, introducing children to more challenging exercises and the concept of anaerobic fitness. This stage aims to prepare children for higher-level fitness activities, encouraging them to push their limits while continuing to keep the sessions enjoyable and inclusive.

Speed, a vital attribute of fitness, refers to the ability to move swiftly from one point to another. In the Conquerors stage, our focus shifts to refining this skill through an assortment of advanced movements, games, and activities.
In this stage, children will take part in exercises and games specifically designed to improve their speed. These activities could include advanced relay races, agility drills, or sport-specific sprints. The objective is to enhance their quickness, reaction time, and explosive power, enabling them to move faster and more efficiently.
Transitioning from the Pioneers stage, the Conquerors stage signifies a transition to more advanced and specialized training. While the Pioneers stage built a solid foundation of movement skills and general fitness, the Conquerors stage hones these skills further, with an emphasis on speed and agility. This stage aims to equip children with the skills necessary to excel in sports and other physical activities that require speed, instilling in them a lifelong commitment to fitness.
