Jimmy And Conall Get Ready To Compete!

We recently caught up with one of our members, Jimmy Moore, who is competing in this year’s PCA South West Bodybuilding competition in April. Jimmy has been a member of U7 for several years and has been training for competitive bodybuilding since he was 19. We wanted to find out more about his journey and how his prep has gone so far! For full details of the show, see below!

Jimmy is a humble bloke who goes about his business without all of the hoorah, fuss, and doesn’t like to brag about his achievements. Jimmy has already competed four times, spanning a period beginning way back in 2014. However, it has now been a whole 3 years since he last stepped on stage.

We thought that having 3 years away from the stage was quite a lay off, and we weren’t wrong. It turns out he had a period of illness which held him back from being well enough to start competition prep for a long time. Then, once he was recovered and ready to compete again, along came COVID, lockdowns, and all the mess that came with that! So, with gyms closed and competitions postponed, his stage dreams took a back seat yet again. However, now Jimmy feels the time is just right, and with the support of his coach - Guy Harding, he thinks this year could be his year! Jimmy is competing in the Open category in Class 2 which is different from previous competitions.

When we chatted, Jimmy was currently on extremely restricted calories and smashing out no less than 5 weight training sessions and 6 cardio sessions a week! He admits at this point he’s beginning to feel pretty tired and hungry. But, having done this before, he knows it’s to be expected and that it’s all part of the sport.

When asked why he chooses to pursue bodybuilding, Jimmy replied saying he enjoys challenging himself and the discipline required. His biggest inspiration is Kai Greene - a 3-time Arnold Classic champion and has been the Mr Olympia runner up 3 times! Jimmy chose the PCA federation specifically as he previously competed in one of their events and said he was impressed by the professionalism and how smoothly their events are run when compared to others he’d experienced.

If you want to see for yourself, he will on stage on 24th April, tickets are available from Exeter Corn Exchange.

We wish you all the best Jimmy!

Conall Is Ready For His StrongMan Debut!

On Sunday 24th April, Conall will be competing in his first ever Strongman competition at Devises Strongest Man and Woman.

Having only began his journey into strongman training at the end of last year with his coach, Tom Rees, we are super impressed with Conall’s attitude and willingness to jump straight in and get that all-important competition experience. With all of that being said, he has trained and worked in gyms for a number of years and is a qualified Personal Trainer himself!

Training to compete in strongman competitions is no easy task. We have seen Tom taking Conall through his paces on the gym floor, and really pushing him to the limits. Due to the nature of strongman events, and the requirement to be strong across a wide range of functional movements, Tom and Conall have been coming up with a heap of different exercises and ways to progress his training to prepare him best for the competition.

We can’t wait for competition today to arrive to see how this man gets on!

Keep pushing hard Con, you’ve got this!
