Yoga Balance Sequence
Off the back of the Sun Salutation flow Gina brought us a couple of weeks back, she decided for this video to shift the focus over to balance. This may look easy, but give it a try and you may surprised how many times you wobble, have to put your foot down or simply fall over!
Balance is an often over-looked, yet important element of fitness, regardless of your sport or goals. Performing balance exercises can strengthen your core and other muscles through isometric contraction, improve coordination and increase proprioception by recruiting stabilisers to restrict the movement of the joint/s being used. Balance incorporated into your workouts is particularly important for the prevention of injuries such as ankle sprains/ strains and those caused by trips and falls. In addition to the above, practicing balance on a regular basis is shown to have cognitive benefits too! Yay!
Give these movements a try. Aim to hold for 10-15 seconds before moving onto the next pose and try not to put your foot on the floor until you have been through the whole sequence. Once you have done one foot, repeat the whole sequence with the other. You will often find one side is much more stable than the other.
Which is your stable side?
